Blue and White Wedding Ideas
My aim for this shoot was to showcase every part of a traditional wedding day whilst using original concepts to spark ideas and inspiration for couples planning their special days! As I often tell my couples, the team of suppliers you bring together is so important to creating your perfect day!
I had the pleasure of working with the most amazing team who are all incredibly passionate, professional, creative, talented and original which are all attributes you want from your suppliers on your wedding day!
The shoot was a great opportunity to showcase some trends I think will be very popular in 2023. These include celebrant led ceremonies, more than one bridal look, disco balls, statement wedding cakes, personalised cocktails, embroidered veils, colourful wedding shoes, bespoke leather jackets, luxurious and impactful table styling, polaroid cameras and, as always, sparklers!
For this shoot, I decided to use a paired back colour palette using only two main colours, blue and white.
I wanted classic white flowers with various shades of blues in all other elements to contrast each other and give an impactful and luxury look. So the shoot had a whimsical, elegant and non structured feel I chose to use loose flower arrangements and flowing textiles throughout.
The amazing Pure Couture Bridal Boutique provided us with 3 stunning Martina Liana dresses for the shoot. It’s becoming so popular to have more than one look on your wedding day so I wanted to feature this and show how you can have completely different dresses to show off different sides to your personality.
The first dress (style 1497) was the perfect blend of modern luxury and romance with detachable puff sleeves and corset styled bodice mixed with the soft romantic tulle skirt and a leg split to give lots of movement. This silhouette is so classic and suited the ceremony style perfectly!
To compliment the dress, Olivia from Olivia Mills Hair & Make Up gave Jess a beautifully classic ponytail with a Hollywood wave and pearl accessories within the hair and a natural make up look.
I wanted to get Lissie at Near and Far Mobile Bar involved in the shoot to showcase a unique and fun option for your drinks reception. Drinks receptions don’t have to just be prosecco served on trays, they can be personalised to you! We had Jess and Will shaking their own bespoke cocktails and having fun with it. What a lovely thing to be able to offer your guests your favourite cocktail!
For the ceremony styling, I used varying heights of white columns with deep blue textiles intertwined between them, with an abundance of pillar LED candles to create a romantic atmosphere.
Lisa from The Sunday Flower Girl created stunning arrangements using gypsophila and limonium with white roses and ruscus in footed bowls on top of the columns and small meadows amongst the candles. By each arrangement being unique and non-uniform it really added to the romantic and whimsical theme.
To add a touch of luxury we used Rosetone’s White Louis Chairs for the ceremony that helped bring the whole look together.
The main reason for your wedding day is to get married so why not go all out to make this feel the most special it could possibly be! Every girl has dreamt about walking down the aisle and what better way to make it even better than by having your favourite song sung live while you’re walking. We had the amazing Soph and Simon sing Jess down the aisle and it honestly gave everyone goosebumps!
The ceremony was led by the amazing Roxy who is a humanist celebrant, she takes away the formality feeling from your ceremony and instead gives a heartfelt, joy-filled ceremony that tells your love story! Celebrant-led ceremonies are becoming so popular and offer such a great way to put couples at ease and make your ceremony totally original and personal.
Minley Manor was the perfect venue for this shoot as it offers such grandeur and elegance. As a 19th-century French chateau-inspired manor house Minley offers endless stunning backdrop opportunities for couple portraits.
We were spoilt for choice for these and were led by Natalie and Hanh, both the photographer and videographer for the shoot, to find the perfect spots! It was important to keep the shots natural and to capture the love between the couple which Natalie and Hanh are all about!
We shot the ceremony, drinks reception and evening reception in the beautiful Orangery at Minley Manor which is an impressive building with high ceilings and gorgeous brick details, it was the perfect blank canvas for us to create the vision of the shoot.
For the table styling I chose a deep blue linen to contrast against all of the other elements to the table. Lisa created a beautiful bed of gypsophila that ran the length of the table with single white roses which oozed elegance! With ivory taper candles dotted throughout to give the table impact with varying levels and a romantic glow.
Helene Millot provided the perfect mix-and-match vintage blue and white crockery for the place settings with a uniform ivory starter plate on top to marry the place settings together. I chose classic crystal glassware and white and gold cutlery to add a touch of luxury.
Samara from Samara and Co Designs created menus with a clean and minimalist design coloured the perfect shade of blue with a contrasting white place name attached with an elegant wax seal. To complete the table design, Frankie at Bewilderly made gorgeous bespoke wedding signage which were layered on top of one another with two different shaped wooden signs and contrasting shades of blue to tie in with the colour scheme and add some depth to the table.
I’m a firm believer in elevating your tables for your wedding breakfast and staying away from the standard options you see repeatedly from wedding to wedding. You can bring your personality and taste into flowers and your dress very easily so why not also extend this to your tables and really wow your guests!
By upgrading even just a couple of elements like your linen, glassware, crockery, napkins, charger plates it can change the whole look of your tables without breaking the bank.
For the Wedding Cake, Anna Lewis created a design that was both soft and romantic featuring delicate sugar roses and gentle ruffles but was also a design which created juxtaposition. A more contemporary style cake set against the traditional backdrop of Minley Manor really created a statement.
The second dress (style 1493) we featured in some of the couple portraits had the most amazing tulle overskirt which complimented the beautiful sequin floral lace of the dress and made it such an impactful, striking dress!
For the reception I wanted to completely change up the feel for the shoot and have a modern and fun set up with a luxurious sofa set, Till Death Do Us Party Neon sign and disco balls!
Instead of a photo booth I thought why not have a bit of a scavenger hunt at your wedding?! A sign by Bewilderly detailed the instructions and guests would use polaroid cameras or even their own phones to capture certain things from the wedding like ‘New Friends’ and the ‘Bride and Groom’. As the Bride and Groom, you don’t often get lots of the candid shots as you’re so busy so it’s nice to see your wedding through guest photos.
The final dress added some sass and confidence to the evening reception! For this look, Olivia added a strong lip and put Jess’s hair down in beautiful Hollywood curls to compliment the dress.
This dress (style 1510) has to be my favourite, covered in 3D floral embellishments and strands of elegant beading with moments of sheer fabric across the bodice and accessorised with elbow-length sheer gloves, a statement pearl headband and white heart sunglasses. I mean what isn’t there to love about that?!
Wow wee, how amazing!
